It takes a whole community working hard together to help keep rabbits hoppy and healthy. With the unhouse rabbit population on the rise, there are ways that you can take steps locally to help keep rabbits safe globally!
Hold a Supply Drive
Holding a supply drive for litterboxes, litter, food pellets, toys, and hay donations helps your local animal shelter save money for medical care and much-needed community services.
Spread the Word
Visit your local shelter and post about the rabbits they have on your social media. This helps spread awareness of rabbits in need and makes them more likely to be adopted. Your followers are likely much different than the ones following the shelter, so this helps the rabbits be seen by people who otherwise might not be aware of them. And no one can resist a cute rabbit photo!
Get Crafty
Craft toys out of rabbit-safe material like paper, cardboard, and hay to help the shelter rabbits stay active and happy. (See page 16 for ideas of fun toys you can make at home!) Drawing illustrations of the rabbits can also help catch the attention of potential adopters.
See a Rabbit? Save a Rabbit!
If you see a loose domestic rabbit outside, talk with your neighbors to see if the rabbit is lost. If not, come together with the community to catch, temporarily house, and rehome the rabbit to a wonderful new loving home. Many shelters can give loaner supplies to make rehoming easier. (See page 8 to learn more about trapping a loose rabbit.)
Host a Birthday Fundraiser
Whether you want to celebrate a birthday or other important milestone, you can create a Facebook or other online fundraiser to raise money for your shelter. Share your fundraiser with friends and family, get donations, and reach your goal to help the rabbits!
